Undergraduate Thesis Assistance

Tisch Library actively supports undergraduate thesis research. Students are encouraged to meet with librarians individually in order to gain an increased awareness of relevant library resources, and learn how to use them as efficiently and effectively as possible.

Take our 8-week mini-course Research 4 Success: Using the Library for Thesis and Capstone Projects

Reference librarians, along with guest speakers, teach this credit, pass/fail course during which you will be introduced to the major research tools and search techniques specific to your subject area.

Who should take it?

Any undergrad who plans a major research project while at Tufts. Don't assume you've learned all there is to know about library research by using Google or attending an English 1 library workshop.

Who teaches it?

What will you learn?

Using hands-on activities in (and outside of) class, you will:

What is the homework load?

Expect to spend 1-3 hours outside of class for every class session.

What have students said who have taken it?

When and where will the class be taught?

The class is held in the Fall on Wednesdays from 5pm-7:30pm. See iSIS for more information.

Meet with a librarian

Reference librarians all have areas of expertise; see our staff directory to make an appointment with a reference librarian who specializes in your subject area.

If you aren't sure who to contact, complete the appointment request form, and a librarian will contact you.

You may also wish to attend one of our drop-in workshops.

Getting materials from other libraries

Tufts is a member of the Boston Library Consortium. You can apply for a BLC card at the circulation desk, which allows you to visit and borrow books from BLC member libraries. You may also use the BLC Virtual Catalog to search for books and request that they be sent to Tisch Library for you to check out.

If titles you're looking for aren't in the BLC Virtual Catalog, use ILLiad, our nationwide interlibrary loan network .

If you have any questions about requesting materials from other libraries, IM, stop by, call, or e-mail the reference desk. The librarians will be happy to assist you.
