Bookmarklets for the Tufts University Library
What is a bookmarklet?
Our bookmarklet lets a user highlight a word anywhere on the internet and run a search of the library catalog with that word as a search term. If nothing is highlighted then a input box promts you for a keyword.
Netscape Navigator 6 or higher
Save this bookmarklet if you are using Firefox, Mozilla, and Netscape 6 or higher. (This will not work in Netscape version 4.7)
Tufts Catalog
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or higher
Save this bookmarklet if you are using Internet Explorer 5 or higher.

How do I save my bookmarklet?
In Netscape
- Click "View" at the top of your browser.
- Highlight "Show/Hide" and make sure "Personal Toolbar" is checked. (As shown below)
- Click and Drag the "Tufts Catalog" link from this web page to the Personal Toolbar, so your toolbar contains the Tufts Catalog link like the image below.
- Now when you click the link in the Personal Toolbar you will be prompted for keywords to do a keyword search within the Tufts Library Catalog. If you have text highlighted by clicking on the link you will automatically perform a Catalog keyword search with whatever text is highlighted.


In Internet Explorer
- Click "View" at the top of your browser.
- Highlight "Tools" and make sure "Links" is checked. (As shown below)
- Click and Drag the "Tufts Catalog" link from this web page to the Links Toolbar.
- Internet Explorer will ask "You are adding a link that may not be safe. Do you want to continue?" Click "Yes". Bookmarklets can be a security risk if installed from an un-trusted source.
- Now your toolbar should contain the Tufts Catalog link like the image below.
- Now when you click the link in the Links Toolbar you will prompted for keywords to do a keyword search within the Tufts Library Catalog. If you have text highlighted by clicking on the link you will automatically perform a Catalog keyword search with whatever text is highlighted.
