FAIR USE POLICY
Tufts University Policy on Fair Use of Copyrighted MaterialsCIRCULATION POLICIES
A valid Tufts I.D. card is required to borrow any library materials.Loan Periods
- Stack Books 28 days
- Reserve Materials 2 hours
Reserve Materials
Books and other materials held on reserve for course use may be obtained at the Circulation Desk. Reading lists that have been supplied to the library are kept in binders at the desk. These lists are annotated with call numbers, material locations, and other relevant information. Some professors will post lists on their website or on Tufts University's Blackboard Course Management System. A borrowing limit of two items per course at a time is enforced. Reserve books must be taken to the Circulation Desk for renewals but materials in high demand cannot be renewed.
Renewals
Stack books may be renewed up to nine times. You may renew a book in person at the Circulation Desk, over the phone (617 627-3935), or, for materials that are not overdue, online (go to the Tufts Library Catalog and select "My Account" in the blue bar at the top of the page). If the material has a hold or a recall on it, you may not renew it.
Overdue Books and Fines/Notices
All notices from the library will be sent out via Tufts email. The maintenance of your Tufts email account is necessary to ensure the prompt delivery of notices.
Borrowers are responsible for all materials charged out in their name and are liable for the following overdue charges if the materials are not returned when due:
- Stack Books $.25 per book for every day overdue
- Reserve Materials $.25 per material for every 15 minutes overdue
A first overdue notice will be sent within two days of the date that the material was due, and a second overdue notice will follow within two weeks of the first notice. Unpaid fines will be billed through the Bursar. If lost materials are reported to the Circulation Desk immediately, the borrower will be charged for replacement and processing only and will avoid overdue charges.
Non-Circulating Materials
These items may not be checked out and must be used in the library.
