Guidelines for Putting Material on Reserve
Submitting a Reading List
Faculty should submit reading lists of required books and articles to the library electronically at reserveginn@tufts.edu. Please list books and articles in two separate sections.
The heading of the list should include the course number and name, faculty name and semester. Required book lists must include complete citations and should be alphabetized by author. If the list is an update of last year's list, please indicate new items with bold type. If no changes have been made to the list, please indicate that in your e-mail.
The library does not hold photocopies of book chapters or articles on reserve. Books in which chapters are assigned should be included on the required books list. Articles can be posted electronically to the instructor's Course site on Blackboard.
Reading lists of books and articles are kept at the Circulation Desk for use by students. They are annotated with call numbers and other useful information.
Use the Reading List Checklist to make sure that your list meets all the criteria.
Deadlines
Please submit reading lists by the following dates to insure that they will be processed and the materials received before the start of classes:
Fall Semester: June 15
Spring Semester: November 15
Summer School: April 15
Using Blackboard
Blackboard is a password-protected database that makes electronic versions of texts available to students registered for a course. Faculty members can post syllabi and readings online, send email to enrolled students and set up discussion boards.
Contact Neal Hirsig, the Blackboard administrator, to have your course sites created. The Ginn Library staff will be available to assist you or your research assistant in the scanning process. There is a scanner available at the Circulation Desk and another on the fifth floor of Cabot.
A Step-by-Step guide to using Blackboard is available from ITS. Neal Hirsig or Paula Cammarata are available to answer any questions.
Linking to Articles
In many cases it is possible to link directly to articles in licensed electronic databases. For instructions on linking see Tisch Library's guide to linking to library resources in Blackboard. You may also contact Miriam Seltzer to have links added to your article list by library staff. Please send your article list at least six weeks prior to the start of classes.
Please comply with Tufts University Policy on Fair Use of Copyrighted Materials.
