INTERLIBRARY LOAN

Once you have determined that we do not have a book or article in the Tufts libraries, there are two ways to request the material on Interlibrary Loan from another library. There is no charge to members of the Tufts community for this service.

The Virtual Catalog of the BLC libraries

You can request Books electronically from Boston Library Consortium and other local libraries through the Virtual Catalog.

Click here to access Virtual Catalog.

You will need to choose Ginn as your pick-up location and input your barcode number from the back of your library card. Click the Search/Request button and search for the item you need. If the item comes up as available, click on the title, check availability at the different libraries, and click Request in one of the libraries that has the item available. Fill in the form and submit it. You will be notified by e-mail of the progress of your request, and you can check on it at any time electronically, by going back to the Virtual Catalog and clicking Review my requests. This is generally the fastest way to get a book; delivery usually takes 3-5 business days.

Contact for Virtual Catalog Assistance

Please contact the Ginn Circulation Department with questions about the Virtual Catalog. You may telephone 617 627-3852 or e-mail either Paula Cammarata or Mariesmith Michaud.

ILLiad

Members of the Tufts community can use ILLiad to request books, articles and other material not available at Tufts or through the Virtual Catalog of the BLC libraries.

To use ILLiad, click here to log in to your account.

ILLiad now uses the same authentication as your Trumpeter (Tufts WebMail) account. Log In using your UTLN (i.e. ltappe01) and password. If you have not been issued a UTLN, you may create a new account. Please e-mail Lindsey Tapper if you have any problems logging in.

Every time you make a request, your personal information will be provided automatically.

On the ILLiad main page you can request material by clicking on the material type and filling in all required fields. The button to submit the request is at the bottom of the page. When the requested material arrives, you will be notified by e-mail to pick it up at the Circulation Desk. The borrowing period for these items is 28 days, with no renewal option.

Journal articles will be sent in hard copy or electronically. You will be notified by e-mail when the article has arrived. The e-mail will specify whether you must pick up the article at the Circulation Desk or if it has come electronically. You can log into your ILLiad account to view your electronically delivered articles. You will have 30 days to read and/or print your materials.

ILLiad allows you to track requests that have been made in order to estimate how long materials will take to arrive at Ginn. Additionally, you can cancel requests up until the time they leave the lending library. You can view your request history to see the titles you've requested in the past. Periodically, however, these lists are purged from the system.
