Purchasing Technology for Faculty/Staff

Guidelines for IT Purchases

If you are using Fletcher monies or plan on installing purchased hardware or software on a Fletcher computer, you need to follow these guidelines.

All software and hardware purchased using Fletcher funds, require prior approval from IT staff at Fletcher.

All software must be purchased in compliance with applicable University licenses. We are legally obliged to maintain only a certain number of copies of software and need to track this information for audit purposes.

All work-related software and hardware purchases should be approved by Fletcher IT staff to ensure that all applications conform to University software/hardware standards, and are purchased at the best possible price and through approved vendors. In some cases we may already have a license and the software can be downloaded free of charge.

Any individual who makes an unapproved hardware or software purchase, and/or one that does not comply with university policy and purchasing guidelines, runs the risk of not being reimbursed and not being supported by Tufts University staff.

Please visit the sites below for more information on personal hardware and software purchases.

If you have any questions, please contact IT@Fletcher.

  1. The software may be purchased by University faculty or staff for installation and use on computers owned or controlled by Tufts University. This includes computer lab machines.
  2. A faculty or staff member holding a license for an Adobe software product may install the software on a home computer, provided that the software is never being used on both the home computer and the Tufts computer simultaneously.
