Science of Synthesis      [Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, and Handbooks]

Science of Synthesis is the new edition of Houben-Weyl. It was launched in 2000 and will continue to expand into new topics to cover the whole field of synthetic chemistry by 2008. Science of Synthesis provides critically evaluated synthetic methods for specific transformations. The methods are organized by product class and are currently available for organometallic and heterocyclic compounds. Structure searching is available using a JAVA applett, ISI/Draw or ChemDraw as you prefer; consult Getting Started Manual as the ISIS/Draw and Chem Draw options utilize plug-ins for structure searching.

ScienceDirect      [Electronic Journals Collection]

A database of over 1,700 journal titles, covering the life, physical, technical and social sciences. Titles start with the initial volume of publication; all titles have tables of contents and abstracts, and most have full text articles. Tufts has access to approximately 800 titles from 1995 to date. The titles formerly published by Academic Press commence with 1993. Green boxes indicate subscribed titles, white boxes are for unsubscribed titles, yellow boxes are complementary, and white with red boxes are partner web sites. Please note ScienceDirect no longer provides access to unsubscribed titles. Articles from unsubscribed titles must be obtained from Tufts Document Delivery Services or purchased directly from ScienceDirect.

SciFinder Scholar  1907 -    [Indexes and Abstracts]

A proprietary software client that provides access to Chemical Abstracts, a major database for all of chemistry. SciFinder Scholar provides for both regular and substructure searching. Updated version 2004 includes access to MEDLINE and OLD MEDLINE databases. To use, the software needs to be downloaded onto your PC (at least a Pentium processor) or Mac (needs Power PC processor) within the Tufts campus. At this time home use is not supported by Tufts. This database is to be used for research purposes only and there is a limit on how many records may be downloaded. Commercial use is forbidden. Tufts users have access to 3 ports, simultaneously, on a 24 hour basis. Users should log out as soon as searches are completed.
