We recommend that you use Mozilla Firefox for your web browsing and Thunderbird 1.5 as your email client since many studies show they are safer than other clients. Please stop by the Library IT Service Desk, 5th Floor, if you have questions or need help installing these programs.

Firefox Searchplugin

HHSL has created a Mozilla Firefox extension that allows users to add the Tufts Library Online Catalog to the browser search bar to quickly perform keyword searches. To install the plugin:

• Click on this link
• Click OK in the dialog box
• Close all Firefox windows, then reopen Firefox to activate the plugin

Your search bar should look like this:

Bookmarklet

Tufts Libraries has created a bookmarklet that allows users to quickly perform a keyword search in the Tufts Library Online Catalog of any word/phrase highlighted in the internet browser window. To install the bookmarklet:

• Drag the following link into the toolbar of the web browser
  • For Mozilla Firefox and Netscape 6 or higher: Tufts Library Catalog
  • For Internet Explorer 5 or higher: Tufts Library Catalog
• Highlight any word/phrase in the browser window
• Click on the library catalog link in the toolbar to perform the search
