This web site provides information about the current state of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), an international initiative.

iSpecies.org  2006   [Indexes and Abstracts]

iSpecies is a species search engine... a test of E O Wilson's idea of a web page for each species. The data displayed are generated "on the fly" by querying other data sources.

ITIS: integrated taxonomic information system     [Indexes and Abstracts]

ITIS provides basic scientific information on the nomenclature, taxonomy, and common names in English, French and Spanish, of large numbers of life forms. It also acts as a gateway to additional information by providing users with an innovative "Internet Search Portal". It facilitates access to other specialized databases in such areas as biotechnology, genomics, botany, entomology, bibliographies, or to numerous collections of biological specimen and observation data. For each scientific name, ITIS will include the authority (author and date), taxonomic rank, associated synonyms and vernacular names where available, a unique taxonomic serial number, data source information (publications, experts, etc.) and data quality indicators.

Macaulay Library  2000   [Indexes and Abstracts]

Sound recordings for basic research, education, conservation, habitat assessment, media, and commercial projects. The collection is strongest in New World species, but includes Africa, Europe, and Asia. Archives and preserves an exhaustive sampling of the behaviors of each animal species using digital video and audio recordings.

NBII Wildlife Disease Information Node  2002   [Indexes and Abstracts]

WDIN is a collaborative project working to develop a Web-based monitoring and reporting system to provide state and federal resource managers, animal disease specialists, veterinary diagnostic laboratories, physicians, public health workers, educators, and the general public with access to data on wildlife diseases, mortality events, and other critical related information. Data are contributed voluntarily, with partners deciding which data they choose to share. The resulting distributed wildlife disease data warehouse can be a valuable resource for all to share and use to enhance the understanding, surveillance, management, control, and prevention of wildlife diseases around the world.
