Each chapter begins with an overview and features speeches, charters, diplomatic agreements, UN resolutions, and other texts that have influenced or were the product of major events and movements. An essay providing historical context precedes each document or set of related documents. A chronology covering the period 1917-2007 complements the narratives and documents.
