Seventh Annual Berger Family Technology Award

The seventh annual grant from the Tufts University Berger Family Technology Transfer Endowment has been awarded to the following three projects:Research Paper Planner submitted by Anna Neatrour, Tisch Library; Elizabeth Ammons, Director, First-Year Writing Program; and Carmen Lowe, Tufts University Writing Center. An interactive web-based research paper planner for undergraduates will present dynamic individualized content that will assist students to prepare, plan, research, and write their research papers. This project supports two of the primary recommendations of the Task Force on the Undergraduate Experience to emphasize communications skills, including writing skills, and to increase opportunities for undergraduate research.
A Digital Repository for Datasets submitted by Edward Oberholtzer, Tisch Library and Kent Portney, Department of Political Science. This project addresses a major need in the social and behavioral sciences at Tufts and will create a digital library for social science data resources for teaching and research. It will promote the goals of the University to strengthen research and foster interdisciplinary approaches to learning and research.
Education in Motion: A Large Scale Implementation of Video Distribution Technology at Tisch Library submitted by Thom Cox, Web Developer/Project Leader, Tisch Library; Neal Hirsig, Assistant Director of Instructional Services, AS&E Information Technology Services; Stephanie St. Laurence, Public Relations/Reference Coordinator, Tisch Library; Beverly Gobiel, Microforms and Current Periodicals Assistant, Tisch Library; Richard Fleischer, Coordinator of Library Media Services, Tisch Library and Stacy Howe, Library Assistant III, Media Services, Tisch Library. The proposal seeks to augment the offerings of the Tisch Library by enhancing the quality and expanding the use of a core internet technology-streaming video, and to establish a mechanism for the distribution and archiving of video content.
The Berger Family has been a generous donor to Tufts University. Over the years they have contributed to the renovation of Tisch Library and established an endowed professorship in the College of Engineering.
