Tisch Library's
Recommendations for Obtaining Publisher Permissions
- Become familiar
with the Fair Use website.
It contains a wealth of information in general as well as FAQs developed
specifically in anticipation of the questions you may have. If you have
Fair Use questions not covered by the website and FAQs, please send
them to tischfairuse@tufts.edu.
- If your reserve
readings include articles in any of the over 11,000 electronic journals
to which Tufts subscribes, you and your students can link to them without
obtaining additional copyright permission. A complete list of Tufts
e-journals can be found on Tisch's
electronic journals webpage. You can either link to the articles
directly from your Blackboard CourseInfo page or put the URLs on your
course syllabus. If you would like a personal consultation with a reference
librarian to learn how to search for electronic journals, please call
the reference desk at 7-3460.
- If you must obtain
publisher permissions, contact names and addresses can be found in the
online
version of Ulrich's Periodical Directory. If you would like a personal
consultation with a reference librarian to learn how to search Ulrich's,
please call the reference desk at 7-3460.
- Since publishers'
offices handle a large volume of permissions, it is suggested you use
the publisher permission form letter
when contacting publishers and allow up to 8 weeks to obtain the permissions
before you submit reserves for processing at Tisch. If you have questions
about persmissions letters, contact the Access Services Supervisor at
73343.
- If publishers bill
for usage of reserve materials, please pay for it and send a copy to
Tisch Administrative Services for reimbursement.
