Interlibrary Loan Policies

Document Delivery Services provides research support to Arts, Sciences & Engineering (AS&E) Tisch Library users for materials not owned by Tisch Library by borrowing originals or copies of materials from other libraries and research centers. The timeframe for receipt of materials is generally one to two weeks.

Who can request

Current AS&E teaching faculty, employed staff, sponsored visitors and students actively enrolled in a Tufts University degree program can request materials through Document Delivery. There is no limit to the number of requests per user but, in cases where a large number of requests per day are submitted by one user, a minimum number of requests will be processed daily until all are complete. All AS&E users requesting materials through Document Delivery must have a current, valid Tufts ID.

Checkout of Document Delivery Materials

Materials received through Document Delivery are held at the circulation desk for the user who requested the item. Materials that are due for return to the lending library are checked out to the user’s Tisch Library account. The loan policy for Document Delivery materials is:

All users are responsible for replacement fees for lost, damaged or unreturned materials borrowed through Document Delivery. Replacement fees are posted to the user’s Tisch Library account. Any charges incurred by Tisch Library will be added to the user’s Tisch Library account.

Copyright

Under certain conditions specified in the copyright law of the United States, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. The photocopy or reproduction is not to be used for another purpose other than private study, scholarship or research. If a user makes a request for a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use”, that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a request for a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
