Tips for Installing and Setting Up iTunes

Like many Windows applications, iTunes is installed on your computer by way of a wizard – a series of screens designed to make the installation process easier for you. On these screens, you will be asked to make choices during the installation process.

Here are our recommendations. You may find it easier if you print these directions before proceeding.

Installing iTunes

  1. Using Internet Explorer, Download iTunes from Apple.com
  2. Enter an email address in the field provided
  3. Uncheck the two checkboxes for receiving email from Apple (unless you really want to receive this email)
  4. Click the Download iTunes button
  5. A window will pop up asking you what to do with iTunesSetup.exe. Choose 'Run'
  6. If you are presented with a Security Warning, Choose 'Run'
  7. At the welcome screen, click 'Next'
  8. At the Licence Agreement, select the button for 'I accept the terms' and click 'Next'
  9. At the 'About iTunes' screen, click 'Next'
  10. Next you will see two checkboxes, you may leave them checked to install desktop shortcuts and use iTunes as default player for audio files or uncheck them
  11. If you are asked to 'choose a destination location', just click 'Next'
  12. Click 'Finish' to complete the install

Setting Up iTunes

  1. Launch iTunes
  2. Agree to the Software Licence Agreement
  3. At the Welcome screen, click 'Next' to get started
  4. You will be presented with the following options:
    • Find Music Files. Choose NO
    • Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized. Choose No
    • Take me to the iTunes Music Store. Choose NO
  5. iTunes will open
iTunes Music Store You can always visit the iTunes Music Store by clicking the link for it in the left column of iTunes. Choosing the Library link will display all audio and video files in your iTunes directory.
