Jackie Ferrara's "Imaginary Spaces to Realized Places" Exhibit Opening reception on May 3, 5:30-8:30pm(Posted: April 12, 2007)
Noted sculptor and public artist Jackie Ferrara began creating wooden structures in the early 1970's. She then conceptualized her work into structures that resembled places, hence called idealized spaces. In the late 1980's, Ms. Ferrara began working in a larger scale and placing her pieces outdoors. This eventually led to site-specific architectural structures which, at times, included collaborations with landscape architects.
Ms. Ferrara and landscape architect M. Paul Friedberg have been commissioned by Tufts University to develop a design that will transform the 11,000 square-foot Tisch Library rooftop plaza. An exhibition of her work titled Imaginary Spaces to Realized Places and organized by Museum Studies students, will be exhibited in the Koppelman Gallery of the Tufts University Art Gallery at the Aidekman Arts Center from May 3 - May 20, 2007. The public opening reception will take place on May 3, 5:30-8:30 p.m.
