graphic marker "Find it @ Tufts" (Posted: September 8, 2005)

graphic
Imagine a link from Tisch's electronic indexes and abstracts that allows you to click on a button and be presented with the full-text article directly from the citation. Instead of following the time-consuming process of finding a citation, searching the lists of journals, and reviewing subscription coverage details, you are instead taken automatically to the article you want if it is available online through Tufts.
Beginning this September with the databases in Scopus, Ovid, Web of Knowledge, Engineering Village, and Cambridge Scientific Abstracts, the Tufts libraries are offering a "Find It @ Tufts" link to articles found in the most comprehensive of our electronic journal collections: JSTOR, Project Muse, Oxford University Journals, Cambridge University Journals, Science Direct, and Blackwell Synergy. If Tufts does not own the electronic version of the journal, the "Find It @ Tufts" link will take you to the library catalog. If we don't own the journal in print, "Find It @ Tufts" will supply a direct link to our ILLIAD inter-library loan service. We will continue to add databases and journal collections throughout the coming months and will also use this service to create links in the online catalog for related subject and author searching of journal literature. As always, if you need assistance, do not hesitate to contact the reference desk at 617-627-3460.

graphic marker Enhancements to the Tufts Catalog (Posted: September 1, 2005)

Several upgrades to the Tufts catalog have been made in the past few months:
Preferred searches
When you are logged in to your account, you can search the catalog and save your searches as preferred. The next time you log in to your account, you can rerun any of your preferred searches to see if new items that match your search have arrived at the library. A future enhancement will allow you to receive an email message alerting you that new titles have arrived!
Reading History
This feature, which you have the choice of opting into or not, allows you to look at a list of titles you've checked out from the time you opt in. No one else has access to this list. You can remove selected titles as you wish. NOTE: if you turn off your reading history or delete items, titles are not retrievable. To opt in to your reading history, log in to your account.
New Acquisitions List
Run on the 15th of each month, the New Acquisitions List includes the previous month's new acquisitions in all formats. It is searchable by title, keyword and author and is browsable by broad Library of Congress heading. You can limit your searches by library and can set up RSS feeds for any search so that you can be automatically alerted when new material arrives.
Improved Searching for Various Formats
The next time you search by advanced keyword and limit your search by material type, you'll notice a great improvement in the choices you can make. You can now search either DVDs or VHS tapes, and there are new, more specific breakdowns in music formats than before. The other aspect of this project is that items have exact descriptive icons. Search by title for Our Town and you'll see that now you tell the difference between the various formats more quickly than you've been able to in the past.
Please talk to Reference Desk staff about any of these improvements.
